We all have our individual traits and characteristics, and we’re all different. What does this mean for your relationship? It means you have to find a partner you’re attracted to, someone you’re compatible with. But our New Jersey matchmakers know that’s often easier said than done. So how does your partner measure up?
When you’re in a relationship with someone who displays bad traits, there is no reason to suck it up and stay with them, especially if it’s something that is harmful to the two of you.
Habits You Should Never Put Up with in a Partner
Do you feel like there are a few things about your partner you just dislike and can’t accept? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to put up with it. Let our New Jersey matchmakers show you the things you should never accept in your relationship.
1. Excessive Flirting
You might know deep in your heart that your partner will never cheat on you, but that doesn’t stop them from flirting every time they see an attractive member of the opposite sex. Excessive flirting when in a serious relationship is not acceptable and you should not put up with it.
2. Attention Seeking
Some people just can’t stop themselves from seeking attention, and they’ll do whatever it takes to get it. The urge to show off at a large scale or pretending to be someone else is very annoying and will cause a lot of tension in your relationship.
3. Too Much Drinking
A lot of people get tipsy here and there, and it’s certainly not a crime to drink a few alcoholic beverages, but being drunk all the time is not acceptable and can put a strain on the relationship. Even if your partner hasn’t caused a scene, it still makes for an annoying time for you. You don’t have to like or accept it if your partner drinks heavily.
4. Rudeness
It doesn’t necessarily have to be directed at you, but being rude to other people is disrespectful too. A rude partner can offend strangers, friends and family members. Not only is it an annoyance to you and everyone else, but it could cause you to lose a few of your friends, as well.
5. Not Making Efforts
Some people are not that good at buying gifts, and it’s not that they don’t try, but some people just don’t know how to pick a gift. If your partner is not the greatest at picking out gifts, that’s okay; after all, they tried. But if your partner doesn’t give you anything on special days, you have every right to be mad at them. Efforts count more than the gift, and if your partner hasn’t put in any time or efforts, that’s not acceptable.
6. Selective Hearing
A partner who doesn’t listen to you shows you that they don’t care. You have every right to be mad when they don’t listen to you, especially if it’s something important. You should not stay with someone who blatantly disregards your thoughts and opinions. If your partner doesn’t listen to you, they are showing outright disrespect—and you don’t have to put up with it.
7. Letting Go of Themselves
There comes a time in every relationship where both partners relax a little; however, completely letting go of oneself is not acceptable. If your partner doesn’t care about their health or their appearance anymore, then you shouldn’t put up with it. Nobody has to dress up like they’re going to the Grammies all the time, but that doesn’t mean being a slot either. Both partners should make efforts to look good and feel good.
8. Lack of Ambition
Has your partner let go of any ambition they once had? Do they not care about what the future brings? Do they spend their days watching TV while you’re at work busting your behind? It is definitely not attractive to date someone who no ambition and our New Jersey matchmakers never recommend it.
9. Jealousy
Is every phone call you get questioned by your partner? Do they check your computer when you’re not on it? Do they want to know your every move? Jealousy is a very bad trait to have, and our New Jersey matchmakers know it will destroy your relationship.
10. Being Disrespectful
Does your partner not care about the house? Do they throw their dirty clothes wherever they want? Do they expect dinner to be served the moment they walk in the door? Not only do you not have to like this, but you should not put up with a partner who disrespects you and expects you to wait on them hand and foot.
11. Looking Down
Does your partner treat you like you’re less than them? Do they make you feel like a kid? You don’t have to like this and you’re more than justified to walk away. A relationship requires two partners who are equal, not one partner feeling they’re above the other.
12. Smothering
Does your partner make you feel smothered? Do they want to be with you every second of the day? Who could blame you for not liking this? A partner who smothers you can make you feel suffocated. Our New Jersey matchmakers know this is not healthy and you should not put up with it.
13. Making Rules
Does your partner show no respect for the rules in your relationship? Are they constantly overriding what you say? If your partner is disrespectful to you and the relationship, you should never tolerate it. A relationship requires two people making the same efforts and following the same guidelines. If your partner doesn’t want you doing something, then they should not do it either. There should never be double standards in a relationship.
If any of these behaviors or tendencies are exhibited by your partner, don’t feel like you have to put up with them. Either let your partner know they must fix their behavior or walk away from the relationship.
